Halong Bay, Vietnam

Glen : 28th and 29th September
Sorry, but this is a self indulgent blog so that I can remember my fantastic Birthday weekend
in Bai Tu Long Bay near Halong Bay, Vietnam.
The Dragon’s Pearl wooden Junk
Kayaking around the serene Limestone Karsts

Sandra and TC
These photos just don’t do it justice but will help us remember
Swimming in the warm water from Indochina Junk’s private each
Sunset on the beach
All ready for our nine course meal on the open deck on a perfectly calm evening
After a lovely evening on board this was the sunrise view from our cabin window as we woke on my birthday. Mandy said she had been looking out of the window at the sun rising for the last half an hour and I said I know because I had been looking at the moon! Lol!
The white marks on the steps to our cabin behind me are small bars of soap, the ones Mandy carefully collected from numerous hotels. She had engraved a letter on each one spelling out “Happy Birthday Glen” Perhaps she had a plan all along!

Our eyes look so small because this photo was taken at 6.15am
No, not us but Ben and Jan, taken from our boat just like it on the way back from the Pearl Farm.
Luckily our rower didn’t give us Conical hats lol!
On the way to the floating village and school
On the way back to land one of the crew had a Guitar!
I couldn’t resist playing it…. or trying to tune it as it turned out.
On the way back to Hanoi we were taken to a village to see a Water Puppet Show.
These Puppet Shows originated in the paddy rice fields.
Maybe it was because we were tired, or because they could understand the Vietnamese dialogue whereas we couldn’t, but I think the locals found it funnier than we did…. Although one lady seemed to be as bemused by it as we were.
What a weekend, the location, view, food and company on the boat all made for a special two days.
