I am dedicating this blog post to my lovely Dad who, until two weeks ago, had been a butcher “man and boy” as he says, in the same village shop for 65 years. From a Saturday boy aged eleven, full time throughout his working life and part time since ‘retiring’
Dad delivering homemade pies to Kington St. Michael village shop in Wiltshire. His Facebook claim to fame.
Here are various butchers shops we have seen during the last six months of travelling. The best shots are the ones we couldn’t take and luckily for you we can’t post the smell that came from these places!
Java, Indonesia
No cling film or fridges in sight. No glass in the shop window either
Not much meat to sell, hardly seems worth opening…..but when you have your child sat waiting for the customers….
Vietnam
Stall holders start early and are very tired by the time the customers arrive to buy their meat
Mobile butchers
Cooked whole chickens
Pavement butchers and fishmongers
Again no refrigeration and what does this tail belonging to?
Meat being sold from the pavement and the back of bikes after the Typhoon in Hoi An
Unusually this side of meat had some loose covering! Upmarket butchers!
Luxor, Egypt
Dahar, Egypt and our first butchers photo as seen on an early blog post
Fresh! Living meat butchers
21st October on facebook…
Just realised we are six months and one week into our ‘Gap Year’. Almost seven months since I left work……. Time is going so fast. Missing family, friends, parsnips and our weighing scales….. Not missing my iron and ironing board like I thought I would though 🙂
ALI
You’ve changed! X
GINA
Time goes by so fast, enjoy!!
DENISE
Wot??? No ironing!! yay!!!! 😀
CHARLOTTE
I find that however wrinkly something is if you put in on and wear it for 20 mins or so it just magically irons itself! This is very handy for ironophobes like me..
ANGIE
Still loving the blog guys I’ve just caught up after being in Hurghada with Al for the past couple of weeks xoxo
I went through a phase of collecting pix of sausages in butcher’s shops around the world!
Ok so it’s six months, two weeks and a few days but you get the idea 🙂
