Hue, Vietnam

Mandy: 3rd – 8th October

Our first, and the main, tourist attraction in Hue, the Imperial Citadel.

We decided to put a photo of the fish in the lake at the Citadel instead of the Citadel itself. Bless the Koi Carp they were very hungry and so me doing impressions of holding food above them was just plain cruel.

Up the muddy Perfume River to the Thiên Mụ Pagoda, tourist visit number two.

It is very quiet here, we were the only people on the boat. (The ‘Captain’s’ wife took this photo of us)
The couple actually live on this small boat. (We communicated by miming) They have three children (they showed us photos) the eldest daughter was on the boat that day while the other two were at school. Samir we thought of you….. We wondered if it was her sisters turn to have the shoes and school uniform that day! She sat with her mother, who picked nits from her hair the whole journey! This is a common sight here in Vietnam, Hue particularly.
We wanted a photo of the Pagoda (tallest in Vietnam surprisingly) but the local teenagers there just wanted a photo of me! I actually suggested we have the Pagoda behind us, they were happy to have us stood by a tree! Madness. Maybe they thought I was that actress! Emma wots-a-name! (Chuckle)
The statues and wall carvings had real facial hair!!! Something for Glen to aspire to. (wink)
Third and final tourist trip around Hue. One of the three Royal Tomb sites.
Karen H we thought of you when we saw this creatures ’emerald’ eye!
OK, whilst others were quietly contemplating and praying in front of the tombs and shrines someone was hot and over tired I think!
Big Lily pads, a lake and us! Still no one around, the camera was on timer! (Smile)….. oh sorry I have just been corrected, Glen says “it was face recognition mode” whatever (sigh)
I’m not quite central, it shouldn’t matter but it does……. I should be worrying about those trousers not the position I was on the path I guess. (chuckle)
A walk through the local market.
There were so many interesting things to take photos of but we were the only tourists around and so I didn’t have the nerve. Luckily Glen took a few though.
Live hens in a cage on a bike. That’s what you call fresh meat.
Dad, I saw this ‘butchers’ stall and thought of you.
Wasn’t sure whether to put this photo in my ‘butchers’ or ‘sleeping’ photo folder
(yes I have such folders! Surely you are not surprised! My favorite is the ‘washing’ one tee hee)
The women shopped from their motorbikes, they didn’t get off even if it meant they were stepping on the veg sometimes! ……… I just noticed that coat!!! It’s giving me a headache looking at it!!
Drying the chillis with everyone stepping over them.
Getting up early to bring your produce to market is tiring I guess.
Not sure if this is a proper hammock or an old onion bag! (Chuckle)

As we look back at our short stay in Hue we will never forget the silk painting salesman (no matter how hard we try!) who found us every day (and night) which ever restaurant we were in! ‘Julie’ keeps springing to mind too (chuckle)

Lol! I don’t really think about what I am wearing here….. until I see the photos! Lol! That combo is a bit loud! Maybe that is why the teenagers wanted to take my photo… I am probably on some website or wall with the caption “what was she thinking?” Lol! They are not flattering but they do not show the dirt or the fact they have not been ironed 😉 x
